Peter Kenneth Savory was the second child of Major Kenneth Savory and Dora. He was born on XX XXX
Peter was educated at Cranleigh College and began his varied career by joining the British South Africa Police in 1953. In 1956 he left the police and became a reporter on the ‘Northern Times’ of North Rhodesia. It was while with the Northern Times that he was present at a riot during which an African man was injured. Peter and another civilian volunteered to act as stretcher bearers to bring the man to safety. This they did under a hail of stones. For this act he was commended by the Governor of Rhodesia for his bravery.
1959, Peter join the Federal Government as Senior Information Officer before becoming Chief Press and Public Relations Officer to the Rhodesian Government when the Federation was disbanded in 1963. He left in 1965 following a policy row with the Government over censorship.
It was while he was working for the Government he met and married Jean Margaret Coles, and in 1961 their daughter Julia was born, followed by Tim in 1962.
From 1966 to 1968 they moved to Jersey where he was Public Relations Officer to the State of Jersey. Their son Angus was born in Jersey in 1967 and they divorced in 1973.
After which he had a spell of self employment, which included running his own catering business in London. In 1973 he made another change when he became Social Secretary of Wembley Stadium, a position he held until 1976 when he became the Manager of the Hope and Anchor Inn in at Eaton Bray near Dunstable, Bedfordshire. This he later acquired to manage on his own account.
