15a Cato Road, Clapham, London
Allan Edward Savory was born on 5th May 1859 to Thomas Hames and Elizabeth Savory at 143 Bond Street. He was baptised 23rd June at St George’s Hanover Square.
Allan was married twice, his first wife was Florence Goodall, who he married when he was 24 and she 28. At the time of this marriage he was listed as a Merchant. They married on 21st June at Christ Church St Pancreas (now St George’s Cathedral).
They had two children Florence and Thomas. At the time the family book was written in 1981/2 by Tony Savory, stated the sole reference to them is in a Court case arising out of the Will of Alexander Durlacher, a brother of Elizabeth Savory, Tom’s wife. In his Will he referred to a trust of £4,000 for Agnes Savory which on her death was to pass to her children, Florence and Thomas. He also left £2,000 to Allan Savory and another £2,000 to Allan’s first wife, Florence. After their deaths the money was to pass to their children, Gordon and Ronald. The Court case was an effort to put right Alexander Durlacher’s error in assigning the children to the wrong parents.
Thomas’ Baptism record at St Mary’s Kilburn of 9th April and 8th June 1888 (the latter date it states he received Communion) has his name as Thomas Allan Trevelyan. His marriage record on 17th October 1914 to Lilian Eliza Moore states his age as 26, so it implies he was born in 1888. They married at St Simon’s Church Paddington. Thomas and his father’s jobs were listed as Clerk. In World War I, Thomas served in the Royal Garrison Artillery.
Thomas and Lilian had a daughter named Joyce Lilian who was baptised on 2nd April 1916 at St James’s, West Hampstead.
Thomas died on 26th February 1958, in Stowmarket, Suffolk. Eliza died 6th September 1964 in Ipswich.
Florence Lilian was born in 1884 and baptised on 9th August 1884 at St Mary’s Teddington, having been born on 23rd May.
In the 1911 census, Allan and Florence were living in South Newington and he was listed as an accountant’s clerk at Liptons on City Road. They had no children living at home.
By the time of the 1921 census, Allan was married to his second wife, Charlotte Walton who was 51 and had been born in Ireland. They married in 1914. Allan was listed as a book keeper of Selfridges, although out of work, living in Wandsworth.
